The World Is A Stage Benefit A Big Success

The March 8th Benefit at the Elgin Club “The World Is A Stage” raised over $1300 for the Our Lady of the Angel Church Building Fund. The evening started with a wonderful Mexican meal catered by La Vista de Sonoita, and then continued with the stage show. The evening was a musical journey around the world through song and dance, with Suzanne Klasen providing the vocals and the Alma Dolores Dancers, including Sean and Savannah Klasen, providing the footwork. Suzanne even joined them for the Mexican Folklorico dances.

Klasen sang songs from many different Broadway shows including Cats, Evita, Les Miserables, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oklahoma and South Pacific. The dancers performed Flamenco, Irish, Polynesian, Hip Hop, Clogging and Mexican dances. Audience members commented that enjoyed Suzanne’s singing, and loved the costumes and energy of the show.

Some of the other parish members are interested in having Suzanne perform another show in Patagonia in September or October to help raise money for the church’s general fund. Suzanne is excited about another opportunity to volunteer her time to help out her church community.

Our Lady Of The Angels Building Fund Benefit Show

Our Lady of the Angles Catholic Church will be holding a benefit dinner and show to raise money for its building fund: The World is a Stage, Saturday March 8th, 6:00 pm. at the Elgin Club. The show will feature the singing talents of Suzanne Klasen and international dancers from the Alma Dolores International Dance Center in Sierra Vista. Suzanne will be performing songs from her Broadway repertoire. The award winning Alma Dolores Dancers will present theatrical and folk dances from around the world. A Mexican dinner will be catered by La Vista de Sonoita.

The funds raised from the show will go towards the church building fund. Currently, parishioners meet for mass at the Sonoita fire station, but are actively working to build a permanent church on the parish property off of Los Encinos Rd. Don’t miss this evening of food and entertainment.

Tickets for dinner and the show are $20 in advanced and $25 at the door, available at La Vista de Sonoita, or through Suzanne Klasen (520-455-5412). Suzanne will also be selling tickets outside the Sonoita Fuel Stop on Thursdays and Fridays from 11:00 to 1:00 starting the last week in January.

House Cleaning Time

With the New Year upon us here in Sonoita, it’s time for some house cleaning here around Sonoita Web. Over the course of the next couple weeks, we will be updating all of our Community Pages to remove outdated listings and add any new information that we might have. This site cleanup will also help enable us to roll out some new features for our readers.

If you know of any incorrect, outdated or missing information from our Community Pages, please don’t hesitate to pass that information along to use via our Contact Page. As always, also feel free to let us know what kind of features and/or content you would like to see here at Sonoita Web.

Also, you may have already noticed our new and improved Forum. We were able to upgrade the forum software to be more efficient and user friendly without losing any data. Stop by and say hi!

Sonoita Web wishes everyone a happy and prosperous New Year! 2007 is behind us and we look forward to an eventful and fun 2008. Be on the lookout for changes and more activity here at Sonoita Web!

Annual Christmas Party

Next week on Friday, December 21st, the Sonoita - Elgin Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual Christmas at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.

If you have never been to this Christmas party before, it is a good time. Be sure to bring our kids as Santa and his reindeer will be making a guest appearance.

The fun begins at 6:00 pm. Come on, come all.

Sonoita Web Changing Web Servers

Just a quick note that Sonoita Web will be moving web hosts in the next day or two in order to secure some additional bandwidth to meet needs. Hopefully, you won’t even notice the move.

When the move does occur, this site will display a maintenance message until your ISP’s DNS propagates to the new server address. Once the DNS propagates to the new address, you will once again see Sonoita Web. In addition, you should see a welcome to the new server message on the site.

Sonoita Vineyards Wine Festival

This weekend, the 4th and 5th of August, Sonoita Vineyards will be holding a wine festival. It is the annual Wine Harvesting Festival.

This Harvest Festival is one of three wine festivals at Sonoita Vineyards. In April, they hold the Blessing of the Grapes festival and in November they celebrate the new wines release festival.

The cost is $10.00 per adult (no reservations required) and includes a souvenir wine glass, tasting of our current releases, winery tours, vineyard tours on tractor-drawn trailer, grape stomping at 1:30 pm, live music & dancing.

Honor Our Heroes

The Sonoita Hills Community Church will be hosting a “Honor Our Heroes” celebration at the County Fairgrounds in Sonoita on June 3. The event will begin at 10:00 am. This is an opportunity to honor our heroes.

The event will include the 36th Army Band from Ft Huachuca, guest speakers, and heroes from the Border Patrol, law enforcement, fire department, and EMTs. After the music and speaking, there will be cookout. Child care will be available for ages 2 - 5.

Sonoita Rodeo Queen Contest

It’s time to start thinking about the annual Sonoita Rodeo coming up this Labor Day. And you can’t have a Labor Day Rodeo without a Rodeo Queen.

This year, the annual Sonoita Rodeo Contest will be held on July 28, 2007. All entries must be received by June 8. Applicants must reside in either Santa Cruz County, Cochise County or Pima County in Arizona. The Rodeo Queen Contest is open to contestants in age of 16 - 24 year. The Rodeo Queen winne will also receive a $1000 scholarship.

In addition to the Rodeo Queen Contest, there will be the traditional Sonoita Rodeo Princess and Sonoita Little Miss Contests. The Princess Contest is open to ages 10 - 15. The Little Miss Contest is open to ages 9 and under.
